Solar power generation no longer depends on the weather, Xinjiang's first solar thermal power station has entered a stable operation stage

Solar power generation no longer depends on the sky to eat! Since the realization of 24-hour uninterrupted power generation on June 18 this year, as of December 28, Xinjiang's first solar thermal power generation project, the CLP Hami Tower Molten Salt Solar Thermal Power Station, has accumulated power generation of 10 million kWh, marking the The project has entered a stable power generation period, which also indicates that my country has the ability to "store" solar energy and transmit the generated electricity to the national grid.

"After optimized operation, the project can be continuously connected to the grid for long-term power generation. It participates in grid dispatching and operation in strict accordance with the requirements of the operation assessment indicators of the CSP station. The main steam temperature, main steam pressure and daily load rate continue to rise, and key technical indicators gradually meet the design requirements. , the project construction was successfully completed." On December 28, Zhou Zhiyong, deputy general manager of CLP Hami Solar Thermal Power Co., Ltd., said.

Since the 1990s, my country has begun to experiment with solar thermal projects. The power station is one of the first 20 solar thermal demonstration projects approved by the state in 2016, and the only one built in Xinjiang. After the project is officially put into operation, the equipment can be used for 3,980 hours a year and can generate 198 million kWh of electricity throughout the year.

"It can be said that the commercialization of CSP projects in my country is still in its infancy. The current construction results of the first batch of demonstration projects are not very satisfactory, and nearly half of the projects have not been constructed as scheduled. After hard work, this project has achieved the construction goals as scheduled, and all indicators are in the same period. In the forefront." Zhou Zhiyong said.

On May 23, in Naomaohu Town, Yiwu County, Hami City, the Hami molten salt tower 50 MW CSP plant invested and constructed by China Energy Construction Investment Corporation opened more than 2,000 heliostats, and the mirrors gathered sunlight. The tower top absorber is illuminated exceptionally brightly. The picture shows the panorama of the power station (photographed by drone). Photo by correspondent Li Hua

Solar power generation is divided into photovoltaic power generation and solar thermal power generation. Photovoltaic power generation directly converts solar energy into electrical energy. The biggest shortcoming is that it cannot store energy, and it cannot generate electricity when there is no sunlight. "Solar thermal power generation can store solar energy in a certain medium to achieve power generation at night and on cloudy days. This project is to store solar energy in molten salt, which can generate electricity at any time as needed." Zhang Yangfei, director of the company's engineering department, said.

On the Gobi Desert in Naomaohu Town, Yiwu County, there are more than 10,000 pentagonal heliostats arranged in a matrix with silver glitter, which is spectacular. These mirrors automatically adjust the angle with the movement of the sun, focusing the sunlight from different directions on the heat absorber on the top of the molten salt tower 180 meters high.

Zhang Yangfei said that it was the ten thousand golden light reflected by the heliostat that heated the temperature of the molten salt circulating in the heat absorber from 300°C to 560°C. The high-pressure water vapor drives the steam turbine generator set to generate electricity.

"The implementation of the project has accumulated a lot of experience for my country's solar thermal power generation projects, proving that the solar thermal power generation technology is feasible in my country, which will reduce my country's excessive dependence on thermal power and make positive contributions to my country's goal of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Explore." Zhou Zhiyong said.

It is reported that molten salt is a chemical substance that is liquid at high temperature, colorless and odorless. "Molten salt is only one of the solar energy storage media, other energy storage media include water, chemical batteries, heat transfer oil, etc. At present, these energy storage media in my country have been demonstrated and verified, and specific projects need to compare and select the best energy storage method. and energy storage medium." Zhang Yangfei said.
