Indian manufacturer plans to build new lithium battery factory

Sanvaru Technology, based in the Indian state of Haryana, has revealed that its lithium battery production capacity in India will more than triple to 400MWh per year.

Sanvaru currently owns a 125MWh annual plant in Sonnepat district, Haryana, specializing in the production of lithium batteries for solar energy storage and electric vehicles. The company is implementing expansion plans and the next factory will be built in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

Sunil Bhatnagar, international business director for emerging technologies at Sanvaru Technology, told pv magazine: “We expect to break through [$22 million] in revenue this year as we have received many expressions of interest for orders.”

According to Bhatnagar, the electric vehicle market is expanding, with two- and three-wheelers leading the way. For four-wheelers, the electric bus market is fast becoming a mass rapid transit method. Another area of potential expansion, Bhatnagar said, is electric tractors, which are suitable for export, but now demand is also rising in the domestic market.

In keeping with the latest market trends, Sanvaru is focusing on lithium batteries for electric vehicles. On the solar side, it mainly produces high-voltage energy storage systems. It also makes some batteries for medical devices and electric motorcycles.

“[A] electric bus battery is also in development, which is very similar to an electric truck battery. We are about to launch another vertical, a megawatt container solution, and Sanvaru is fully working on it.”

Sanvaru has a supplier base spread across India and exports batteries to neighboring countries and African markets.
