Study finds that India needs to deploy 160GWh of energy storage systems to meet 2030 renewable energy target

These energy storage systems will include grid-side energy storage systems, energy storage systems deployed in conjunction with renewable energy generation facilities, energy storage systems in distribution and transmission networks, and energy storage systems that balance grid ancillary services. The Indian Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) was established 10 years ago by energy consultancy CustomizedenergySolutions to promote the development of energy storage, green hydrogen and transportation electrification technologies in India, and has been working closely with government departments. The energy storage industry in India started late and did not develop until 2018. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) recently conducted a pilot tender for a 500MW/1000MWh independently deployed energy storage system under a set of guidelines from the Ministry of Electricity of India. And when the penetration rate of renewable energy exceeds 50%, it will provide a unique opportunity to make India a major global energy storage market and a manufacturing center for related technologies.


The Energy Storage Alliance of India (IESA) estimates that 50GWh of new Advanced Battery (ACC) battery annual production capacity is supported through the Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and each GWh of production capacity means around 10,000 jobs will be created .
