Cape Town, South Africa launches tender for renewable energy projects

Cape Town's mayor, Hill-Lewis, speaking at the African Solar Conference, said the city of Cape Town is working to become South Africa's first "unload-shedding city", having launched tenders for up to 300 megawatts of renewable energy projects. Hill-Lewis announced two weeks ago that the City of Cape Town planned to launch a new tender for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and expressed hope that advice from the IPPs would help Cape Town reduce its reliance on Eskom during peak electricity consumption periods . The IPPs are part of the City of Cape Town's efforts to reduce load shedding and its negative impacts, which are currently open to power generation projects, power generation plus storage projects and energy storage projects.
